Dear participants and others, interested in the Conference ‘Retroscapes and Futurescapes’, the fifth Palermo Conference on time and organization.

We are glad to let you know that our call for papers has triggered the interest of internationally known scholars of social and organizational time. Experts from Algeria, Australia, Brazil, Camerun, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, UK, USA and Switzerland have confirmed their participation. This letter is meant to inform you about registration and other details. Again, we are looking forward to an inspirational meeting!

Conference objectives and topics.
The objective of the fifth Palermo Time Conference is to discuss recent research and thinking concerning ‘temporal tensions in organizations’. The theme will be addressed through a timescape view, in which memories and plans will be analysed in topics such as:

  • trends in organizational development
  • organizational discourse about past, present and future
  • business ethics and ‘good governance’
  • temporal insights and managerial behaviour
  • examples of daring projects related to the future
  • sustainable developments in (fast and slow) food production, energy and preservation
  • realistic and utopian retroscapes and futurescapes
  • crisis management and conflict resolution
  • duration, rhythms, sequence, synchronization and timing
  • time dimensions and marketing
  • cultural heritages and time/space perspectives
  • methodological aspects of time research
  • time and managerial competences
  • timescapes and complexity
  • timescapes innovative museums
  • time and temporal tensions in the arts and in the film industry

Participation, language and papers.
The working language will be English.  Oral presentations (20 minutes) will also be accepted in other languages, provided that an abstract (150 words) and the written text of the final paper will be in English.  The full papers should be sent to the following representatives of the Program Committee:  info@gmorello.net and ihj.sabelis@mdw.vu.nl. For finalizing the program, a few more proposals can be accepted, provided that the core theme of the conference is explicitly addressed. Final papers are expected by May 15th. 

Venue and fee.
The seminar will take place in the prestigious Palace D’Aumale in Terrasini, Palermo, Italy from 9 am, 21st June until 6 pm, 23rd June.  The venue, facing the beautiful view of Calarossa seaside, is about 10km West from Palermo Airport and around 35km from Palermo city centre. The Seminar fee is 475 euros for participants paying before May 23rd. After this date, the fee will be 525 euros.  Please note that the fee covers attendance at the meeting, documentation, coffee breaks and lunches, a conference dinner, but not hotel accommodation. There are several hotel possibilities in the area of Terrasini, the prices ranging from about € 50 to about € 80 per person per day.
