Gabriele Morello Ahrens (Palermo, Italy 1928), has been Professor of Business Statistics and Market Research in the Faculty of Economics, University of Palermo from 1970 to 2000, and is Professor Emeritus of the Free University (VU) Amsterdam, where he was responsible for the Marketing course in the Faculty of Economics and Econometrics from 1980 to 1993. He is the founder of ISIDA, the first school of management in Southern Italy, where he was the Director from 1956 to 2004. During this time ISIDA was one of the best-rated European business schools. He is chairman of GMA, a company that provides educational services (courses, seminars, workshops), management consulting and research activities at global level. In Sicily he is chairman of Azienda Agraria Morello ltd, a farm in the Trabia (Pa) area, where in 2010 he started a rural tourism activity (Case Morello). In the field of management education, he is the director of MIDI, an international MBA programme offered by CERISDI, the Sicilian graduate school of management and research centre located in Palermo (click here for details).

Dr Morello holds degrees in Law and in Economics, as well as diplomas in Statistics and in Psychology. His postgraduate studies - including a Libera Docenza (PhD) in Marketing - were completed in Italy, at Balliol College, Oxford, and at Stanford University, Cal. At Stanford he was a Fulbright fellow, was granted a Master of Arts in Economics, became an Assistant to professors P. A. Baran and H. B. Chenery and worked as an economic analyst at the Hoover Institute. From 1953 to 1956 he taught at IPSOA, the graduate school of business in Turin, Italy. In the meantime he was Vice-Director of the Italian Market Research Institute (SIRM) and of the Italian Institute for Public Opinion (IIOP) in Milan.

Prof. Morello has lectured and provided consultancy on marketing and management in almost all European and Latin American countries, in the USA, Canada, Russia, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Armenia, Yemen, India, Hong Kong, Algeria, Morocco, South Africa, China, Japan, Singapore and Australia. Such activities were conducted for private and public companies as well as governments and international organizations, including the UN, ILO and OECD. For 5 years he taught International Marketing at the City University in London. Here in 1996 he held the position of Audience Research Auditor for the BBC World Service. This implied controlling the quality of the surveys conducted by IBAR (International Broadcasting Audience Research) and by research agencies in 135 countries. A frequent speaker at international meetings, he has taught at INSEAD, France; Hernstein Institute, Austria; Bocconi University, Italy; University of Rhode Island, USA; American University of Armenia (AUA); University of Havana, Cuba, and many other universities and management centers.

Dr. Morello has served as President of the Italian Marketing Association (AISM), the Italian Association of Business Schools (ASFOR), the European Association of Management Training Centres (EAMTC, now EFMD), the European Society for Opinion and Marketing Research (ESOMAR). A member of IAM (International Academy of Management) and of ASST (Association for the Social Study of Time), he is Honorary Member of EFMD, ASFOR, AIF (Associazione Italiana Formatori), AIDP (Associazione Italiana per la Direzione del Personale) and ACSG (Associazione Culturale Sicilia-Giappone). He has been a member of the Rotary Club Palermo since 1961.

He has published 10 books, 5 monographs and 250 articles in scientific and professional journals. In 2003 he was awarded the ASFOR Career Prize, presented to the most outstanding Italian personality in management development. A similar award was granted to him by AIF and by UNESCO Club. In 2008 he was appointed Honorary Professor at MIRBIS, the International Academy of Management in Moscow. A survey conducted by Harper Moulton for Business Horizons, the magazine of Indiana University (USA), gives a personal and professional profile of his career. In this survey, Dr Morello is indicated as one of the 12 experts who has contributed most to contemporary management education at international level.
